Swainson Photo Archive – The Constitution, Norwich
Norwich, the former Constitution pub. Yet another of Norwich’s elegant purpose built pubs from the 20th Century. Constructed for Bullards this was built in 1933 by RG Carter, replacing an older construction. It lasted in pub use until 2010. Here it is photographed (on infra red monochrome film) in about 1985. The infra red film gives a grainy and rather ethereal look and makes vegetation appear to glow. I did visit it occasionally, it was dark and wood panelled inside and nicely constructed. It gave its name to both the street it is in and the motor garage next door. Did you ever use this pub? Tell us about it. Pic from the Swainson Photo Archive, © JAS 2023
